Hollywood sets a bad example for the younger generation. Probably false expectations, but more importantly, that reprehensible behavior is rewarded. Look at who our children are watching: Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Colin Farrell, Britney Spears, there is not enough room to list them. Whenever their parents are interviewed, they act as though there is nothing wrong with them. Sex tapes, DUIs - it is all just youthful poor judgment. Where would these millionaries be if people started using better judjment and ignored them?
Um no.... People who expect life to emulate the movies are the ones with the problem. Not Hollywood. Hollywood never claimed that movies were accurate to life, or something to base real actions off of.





Personally though, I would solve this similarly to how Jack Bauer might have handled it on 24. Send in special forces to kidnap these Somali pirates friends and family. Then threaten to off their family members one at a time until they release the captain. Instruct them that if the captain is hurt in any way that you will do the same to their families. They will be completely powerless if we do this. If it comes down to having to execute someone to show you aren't bluffing. Simply stage it to look like you executed the person on film. When you get the captain back, inform the pirates that it was all a ruse, arrest them, and return their unharmed family members to their homes.





They will not attempt to kill the captain until they think they are in the end-game and have no other choice. He is their ONLY bargaining chip. If he dies they will be blown to pieces within seconds as there will be NOTHING holding back the full force of the US Navy.





After that people will think twice about trying to board a ship flying the US flag.
Yep, these kids with their video games and movies think they know more than any Military Member.





I am tired of the Arm Chair Generals on this board. They need to go to SOI and combative training first, then get back on here and tell us the logistics of this rescue mission.





The military is not taking action due to politicians. Politicians usually cause more trouble, than good in situations as these.
